LLC Blethers: An Evening of Academic Storytelling will be a social-academic event. It will feature PechaKucha presentations about postgraduate research and experiences, a live band, food, and will be open to any and all LLC postgraduate students and staff. It is kindly supported by the University of Edinburgh's Festival of Creative Learning and the Literatures, Languages, and Cultures Graduate School Student-Led Initiative Fund.
LLC Blethers is intended to be a showcase event for research within the Graduate School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures. Firstly, we want students and staff in the School to share stories about their ideas, their research, and their academic experiences. This is as much for the benefit of current students and staff as it is for the School's new arrivals in autumn. The LLC is home to so much dynamic and creative research, and we want to hear about it! Secondly, LLC Blethers is a social gathering. It aims to bring together as many LLC folk as possible, put them into the one space, and set them blethering. If further academic exchange and collaborations arise out of the encounter - fantastic! But the communal blethering is an end in and of itself. Thirdly, LLC Blethers is intended to bring research and academic discussions into a non-traditional academic space. These ideas belong in a pub or a café as much as they do in a lecture hall. Finally, diverse presentation skills are integral for researchers to communicate their research to non-specialist audiences; with this in mind, LLC Blethers will hopefully provide a forum for creative presentations by LLC researchers.
